Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF): Responsible Waste-to-Energy Solutions
After we have processed and sorted the waste from your company, we will either turn to common recycling processes or convert the waste into energy to fuel power plants.
Refuse-derived fuel is formed by separating combustible from noncombustible particles in your waste. The combustible materials are sent to Xcel Energy’s plants to be used as clean energy. Noncombustible materials are recycled to be used again, which keeps them out of landfills. Xcel has multiple power plants throughout the country, including many in Minnesota.
At this point in time, two Minnesota power plants use RDF as their main source of energy, while the others use solar and wind energy. The two plants that primarily use RDF are in Red Wing and the one we work with, the Wilmarth Power Plant in Mankato. We hope our commitment to ethical waste-to-energy solutions inspires you to better commit to sustainability.
