Innovative & Sustainable Solutions

In today’s world, there is an ever-present push for sustainability measures to be taken. In recent years, laws have been set in place and consumers have threatened to boycott until their favorite corporations become more sustainable. Because of this, our industry-leading business processes have expanded our environmental influence throughout the country and even to one international location.

Since we opened for business in 1993, we have made sustainability our priority. We view sustainability goals as one of the most important aspects of any business. We want to make the world a better place, and we want to help companies across the world reach zero landfill solutions.

Sustainable Waste Solutions

At LJP, we are constantly evolving and looking for ways to improve our waste solutions processes. We have been in this business since 1993 and understand better than anyone how to create a sustainable world. Because we are dedicated to sustainability, we only work with customers who strive to improve their sustainability efforts. Taking action to create a more sustainable world creates a chain reaction of benefits, which include:

  • Less Solid Waste
  • More Clean Fuel
  • And more

These benefits are something to be desired, and we believe all large manufacturing and distribution centers should have higher sustainability goals. The more companies that participate in sustainability, the quicker we can reach our ultimate goal.

What is The Ultimate Sustainability Goal?

At LJP Waste Solutions, our ultimate sustainability goal is zero landfill waste. Since opening, we have been part of the zero landfill initiative. The zero landfill initiative is part of a larger goal of zero waste.

With zero landfill, we separate materials into three categories when they come into our facility. These categories are:

  • Combustible
  • Recyclable
  • Compostable

As soon as the materials are sorted into their respective categories, they are then shipped from our facility to predetermined locations for their next uses. The recyclable materials are transported to select buyers who then reuse the materials for new products. The compostable materials are moved out for organic uses, and the combustible materials are transported to the Wilmarth Power Plant. At the Wilmarth Power Plant, the shredded materials are converted to Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF), which is used as clean energy.

Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF)

Before any materials leave our facility at LJP, we first document the materials in painstaking detail so we can provide accurate reports; then we shred the materials. After the materials are shredded, they are baled and prepared for transport to one of Xcel Energy’s power plants. At the power plant, the shredded materials are converted to Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF), which is used as clean energy. RDF is a far more sustainable solution compared to fossil fuels. With our focus on recycling, reusing, and converting viable materials, we have made a significant contribution to sustainability efforts and will continue to do so as our business expands.
